The University of Hong Kong (HKU) awarded six outstanding athletes with the HKU Lee Shau Kee Top Athletes Scholarship. A presentation ceremony will be held on August 1 (Monday).
In a concerted effort to nurture aspiring sports stars in Hong Kong, the HKU Lee Shau Kee Top Athletes Scholarship was established to support outstanding emerging and active athletes in pursuit of excellence in both sports and academic studies.
The six recipients of the Scholarship are Coleman Wong (tennis), Russell Williams Aylsworth and Sandy Choi (sailing), Lawrence Ng and Nicholas Choi (fencing), and Adrian Yung (Alpine skiing). Each athlete will receive HK$400,000 for their academic and sports career development.
Professor Richard Wong, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor; Professor Bennet Yim, Director of Undergraduate Admissions and International Student Exchange; the six athletes and representatives of Henderson Land Development Co Ltd will attend the ceremony. Dr. Martin Lee Ka-shing, Chairman of Henderson Land Development Co Ltd, will congratulate the students via video conferencing.
To encourage more talented athletes to join HKU family, the University launched the Top Athletes Direct Admissions Scheme with competitive admission mainly based on sports achievements from the start of the academic year 2022/23. The six awardees are among the top athletes admitted to the University under the scheme this year.
