HKU Sports Scholars win one gold, one silver and three bronze medals at World University Games

Sports Scholars of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) championed at the 2023 World University Games held in Chengdu, China.
Cheung Ioi Chit secured a silver medal in the men's Nangun event of martial arts, marking the first medal won by an HKU athlete at the World University Games.
Coleman Wong Chak Lam and his partner Wong Hong Yi Cody captured a bronze medal in the mixed doubles tennis event, making it the third consecutive time that the Hong Kong tennis team has earned a medal at the World University Games.
Ko Shing Hei claimed a bronze medal in the men's singles badminton event, bringing home the Hong Kong badminton team's first-ever World University Games medal.
Ryan Choi Chun Yin, fresh off his impressive performance at the 2023 World Fencing Championships, clinched a bronze medal in the men's individual foil event. In the men's foil event, the Hong Kong team, consisting of Edgar Cheung Ka Long, Ryan Choi Chun Yin, Aaron Lee Yat Long, and Lawrence Ng Lok Wang, fought valiantly and ultimately secured the gold medal. This marked the fourth medal for the Hong Kong fencing team at the competition.
Dr. Michael Tse, Director of Centre for Sports and Exercise at HKU, expressed pride in athletes' exemplary performances. He believes their unwavering efforts in pursuing excellence in both sports and academics will inspire fellow HKU students to embody the spirit of HKU and Hong Kong in all aspects of life.
The games concluded on August 8. This year, 13 athletes from HKU participated, other athletes include Saloni Mehta (badminton), Cheung Siu Hang (athletics), Leung Yi Hang, Linna Fan, Chan Tsz Ching, Wong Chun Hin (fencing), Charlene Chu Wing Yan (taekwondo), and Wong Chun Hei (artistic gymnastics).
